Both of these men are dressed and equipped for fighting Indians on the Frontiers of North America during the French & Indian War. They were radically different from other infantry of the period who fought in lines shoulder to shoulder, these troops fought independently and used cover.  Their tactics are the basis for all modern infantry today.
